Guizhou Lu runs through the heart of an area known in Qingdao as Xi Zhen, one of the main residential quarters in the city prior to the eastward urban expansion of the 1990’s. Following Guizhou Lu west leads to Tuandao, the very tip of the Qingdao peninsula jutting out into Jiaozhou Bay. The main neighborhood of Xi Zhen is called Ba Da Xia, centered around Guizhou Lu where it runs parallel to the coast a block or two off the seashore.
Ba Da Xia is old school Qingdao, a quiet residential area near the sea with a slower pace than other areas of the city
The old German Railway Bureau building on the eastern end of Guizhou Lu is today an administrative center for China Rail, near the 12 Middle School bus stop. Commercial outlets on Guizhou include branches of Liqun Department Store and Impulse Fitness Center. Keeping in line with the Qingdao tradition of naming roads after places in China, Guizhou Lu is named after the sparsely populated, mountainous province in the west of the country.
